Ainon chapel was first built on Waunrhydd road in 1860, then rebuilt into the chapel that you can see on the right in 1894. With falling congregation numbers and the buildings condition getting worse the chapel closed its doors for the last time in October 1990 and was demolished in March 1992.The land the chapel sat on and the substantial grave yard around the chapel has been has now been turned into a children’s play area and car park by the workman’s club (see photo below, right) some grave stones have been removed and some moved against the wall next to Pantawell cottage.I have burial records from Ainon including a map of the graves original locations, an A to Z index of names of those buried there and the grave stones inscriptions. if you want details of any burials please contact me with your request.
