THE WAR MEMORIAL

Tonyrefail, like most towns and villages though out great Britain erected a memorial after the first world war to pay tribute to those who had fought and lost their lives during the war Originally the plan was to put it near the centre of Tonyrefail at the T junction at the end of Waunrhydd road.
as a new wall was built along Gilfach road a set of gates where fitted ready for the memorial.  sadly during excavation they got a few feet in and hit solid rock (as you can see in the photograph on the right)  so the plans where quickly changed and the monument was to go in Trane cemetery

The memorial is situated just inside the main gates of Trane and looks as good now as the day it was unveiled
